
The AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language
offers certification for Listening and Spoken Language
Specialists (LSLS) as either Auditory-Verbal Therapists
(LSLS Cert. AVT) or Auditory-Verbal Educators (LSLS
Cert. AVEd). To be eligbile for LSLS certifications,
candidates must demonstrate that they meet requirements
for formal education, supervised practicum, professional
experience and post-graduate study. Candidates must
work with a LSLS-certified mentor for three years before
taking the LSLS Written Test for certificaition.
Listening and Spoken Language Specialists and candidates
for certifiation must also earn approved LSLS Continuing
Education credits. Employers, educators, continuing
education providers and other organizations may apply
to have their programs and events approved for LSLS
CE credit.
Parents
and employers can verify a professional's status to
make sure that the teachers, speech-language pathologists
and audiologists they work with have maintained certification
as Listening and Spoken Language Specialists. The LSLS
Registry provides up to date certification information
and contact details for LSLS professionals.

Online
registration is now open for the AG Bell 2009 Listening
& Spoken Language Symposium. The Symposium, to be
held July 23-25 in St. Louis, Mo., will focus on Executive
Function -- a critical aspect for children to learn
how to learn. An understanding of Executive Function
can help professionals identify where cognitive breakdowns
occur, and may also help highlight a child or adult's
areas of strength and talent.
